笹川記念保健協力財団は、ベトナムにおけるハンセン病対策活動のための最初のコンタクトを1974年に開始し、1982年からハンセン病対策への協力を開始しました。

ベトナムは、政府やWHO（世界保健機関）、ILEP（International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Associations：国際ハンセン病団体連合：当財団もILEP加盟団体）などのNGOによるたゆまぬ努力の結果、WHOの目標より5年も早く、1995年には公衆衛生上の問題としてのハンセン病の制圧を達成しました。当財団は、1982年から2005年まで、同国の全国ハンセン病制圧活動へ協力し、現地の医療従事者の育成や、薬品や機材の供与の支援を通じ、ハンセン病を国の公衆衛生上の問題として取り組む体制作りに貢献しました。

2013年からは、NLEP（Netherlands Leprosy Relief：オランダ救らい協会）との協力で、回復者子女への教育支援やインクルーシブな地域社会構築のための回復者エンパワーメント活動を支援しています。

 

[en]Sasakawa Memorial Health Cooperation Foundation started its first contact for leprosy control activities in Vietnam in 1974, and started cooperation for leprosy control in 1982.

As a consequence of tremendous efforts made by the government, WHO and NGOs such as ILEP (International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Associations), Vietnam accomplished elimination of Leprosy from public health perspectives in 1995, which was 5 years earlier than the goal set by WHO. Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation supported nation-wise activities to eliminate Leprosy in Vietnam between 1982 and 2005. It contributed to establishment of a system to control Leprosy from public-health perspectives through cultivation of medical professionals in Vietnam and provision of drugs and devices.
