History of Leprosy Website Renewed

The Sasakawa Leprosy Initiative has completely renewed its History of Leprosy website for the first time in a decade, providing users with a more accessible and comprehensive platform for exploring the history of leprosy around the world.

In addition to searching materials by country and historical period, users can now systematically browse and search artworks, personal testimonies, photographs, and other historical resources. The redesigned website makes it easier to discover diverse perspectives on the history of leprosy and the experiences of persons affected by the disease.

Looking ahead, we will continue to expand the website by adding documents and other archival materials from around the world. Our goal is to foster an international online network that connects institutions, researchers, and communities working to preserve and share the memories, records, and history of leprosy for future generations.
