HIV/ Aids Awareness-Raising

Through the World Health Organization, we provided HIV/AIDS education in schools in African, Asian and Latin American countries, supported the development of prevention materials and cooperated in the production of the Global AIDS Information Package. At the International AIDS Conference and the Asian AIDS Conference held in Yokohama, Chiang Mai, Bangkok and other cities, we supported the strengthening of NGO activities to promote correct understanding and prevention. In 1987, the AIDS awareness campaign invited American actress Elizabeth Taylor and basketball player Magic Johnson to Japan.

Through the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific (WPRO), the WHO also developed close relationships with infected people, their families, health care workers, NGOs and governments to support multifaceted activities, including cooperation in comprehensive care, including treatment, prevention, health care for infected people, medical care, psychological support and awareness-raising activities.
