Training Program for Palliative Care Doctor

The Hospice Palliative Care Doctor Training was a training programme initiated in 2001 by the Sasakawa Health Science Foundation, which merged in 2010, to train doctors involved in hospice palliative care and ran until 2018. The programme provides one year of on-the-job training in medical facilities that provide hospice palliative care nationwide, and approximately five doctors have been recruited each year for the opportunity to study. Over the past 18 years, nearly 100 doctors have completed the training, which connects young doctors who will lead hospice palliative care in our country in the future with pioneers of hospice palliative care.

Based on the belief that networking among physicians involved in hospice palliative care is important for improving hospice palliative care, a network of physicians who have completed the Training Program for Palliative Care Doctor and their supervisors was established. To maintain the network, the Foundation organised and managed information exchange meetings for network members and established a mailing list to provide a forum for information exchange among doctors involved in hospice palliative care.
