Global Appeal 2021 Launched

Activity area:

The 16th Global Appeal to End Stigma and Discrimination against Persons Affected by Leprosy was launched on Sunday, January 31, 2021.

Endorsed by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), this year’s appeal upholds the elimination of discrimination in respect to employment and occupation and underlines “the right of every individual seeking work to be treated with fairness, dignity and respect.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the launch took place online. A dedicated Global Appeal website is open through March 31, 2021.

In addition to video messages from dignitaries, the website includes photo exhibitions on the theme of “work”, a music video by a Brazilian singer-songwriter, testimonials by young people who are working to support persons affected by leprosy and recordings of webinars hosted by Sasakawa Leprosy (Hansen’s Disease) Initiative on social, medical and historical aspects of leprosy.
